Overview
Maba Ba is a Senegalese-born creative director, filmmaker, writer and musician based in Brooklyn, and the founder of Flying Whale Wine. His work moves between philosophical essays, a wine made in Elne in southern France, independent films distributed across Senegal and West Africa, and The Listening Room, home of his podcast Black In This World, Between. The VaporAviator Design Team designed and developed his personal website in Framer, bringing these practices together under one name. The project continues our work with Maba, which began with the Flying Whale Wine website in 2024.
Our Work
The goal was to give Maba's work a single home. Wine, film, music and writing each speak to a different audience, and the site needed to show the one person connecting them. We handled the project end to end in Framer: information architecture, visual system, motion and development through to launch. The site is organized as four numbered chapters (Writing, Wine, Film and The Listening Room), alongside a philosophy section, a space for shared reflection called Between Us, and an open invitation to get in touch. Visitors meet the storyteller first and the individual ventures second.
Design Approach
• Website Design: Designed a cinematic, editorial website that opens on a full-bleed moving image with Maba's name in oversized type, setting the tone of a film title card for everything that follows. • Content Architecture: Organized his work into four numbered chapters, Writing, Wine, Film and The Listening Room, alongside a philosophy section and a space for shared reflection. • Framer Development: Built and launched the site in Framer, with responsive layouts across breakpoints and motion that brings the homepage title into place as the page loads.
The Outcome
mababa1.com now gives Maba one address for everything he makes. Readers, wine lovers, film audiences and podcast listeners arrive at the same place and can move between his practices in a few clicks. The Framer build keeps the site easy to extend as new films, essays and episodes arrive.
